Last year’s COVID pandemic changed how couples’ marriage proposals were planned. But with the availability of vaccines and testing, more options for proposals are now returning in 2022.
Top planners observe that destination proposals are back, along with public proposals celebrated with family and friends. The “proposal party” is also making a return. Although private proposals are still an option, some proposers prefer them because of their greater flexibility in terms of planning, from renting unique venues, finding scenic locations, hiring wedding professionals, to creating personalized and memorable experiences.
Read on for a list of the latest trends for marriage proposals in 2022, inspired by top proposal planners in the industry.
Intimate Proposals in Public Spaces
A new proposal trend in 2022 is creating an intimate moment in public spaces, according to Jasmine Galloway of Jasmine Rose Events in Brockton, Massachusetts. Proposers can now opt for private dining experiences at their favorite restaurants, or upgraded proposals in public parks or private beaches. One popular example is when Travis Barker proposed to Kourtney Kardashian at a beach hotel—an intimate and private moment, but equally special.
Venue Rentals
This 2022, many proposers are renting venues as a more unique option for a private proposal. Though the cost might be more expensive, it provides complete privacy and a more intimate space to pop the question. Heather Vaughn of The Yes Girls in Trabuco Canyon, California states that most clients request a venue or location with a pretty backdrop or view, and total privacy for the couple’s proposal to take place without hiccups. Private rental spaces, especially those with outdoor sceneries such as beach views and rooftops, are becoming the most popular.
Destination Proposals
Now that safety measures are more established, couples are now able to travel more freely and safely, which means that destination proposals are back in a big way. Proposers are selecting locations for various reasons, with spectacular scenery as a major factor in creating those Instagram-worthy moments. According to Galloway, nearby destinations and faraway places such as beachy spots like Mexico and the Dominican Republic are highly recommended.
The Return of the Proposal Party
Post-proposal surprise parties are now making a comeback, though a bit smaller than pre-COVID. Heather Vaughn states that “many clients proposing are having guests present for the proposal again. A majority of our clients will utilize their privately rented proposal venue to host their guests following the proposal. These celebrations normally have around 15 to 25 guests present.”
Professional Photography
One proposal trend in 2022 that never goes out of style is a hidden photographer, according to Alex K of Vision in White Events in Nashville, Tennessee. Photos are an excellent way to remember this special moment forever and share it with your family and friends later. A professional photographer or videographer can also ensure that your proposal itself is an Instagram-worthy event. However, be sure to work with your photo and video professionals in advance, to ensure that they won’t spoil your surprise by being seen.
Floral Decor
In 2022, proposers are realizing that a bouquet of red roses is not the only way to add beauty and decor to their proposal. Expect to see elaborate, stylish, Kardashian-worthy floral arrangements to decorate homes or other proposal locations. Heather Vaughn says that couples are all about the flowers this year, making sure the set-up is beautified with their partner’s favorite flowers and colors.
Proposal Planners
As with weddings, proposals are becoming more extravagant and wedding-like, and couples are searching for wedding professionals to help plan, develop, and execute the perfect proposal experience, according to Jasmine Galloway. The proposers’ part is to show up, look good and pop the question. Proposal planners and additional wedding professionals such as photographers, videographers, florists, and musicians, are there to make sure that the moment unfolds seamlessly so that couples can enjoy every moment.
